Gardens for Reflection and Reason
Art Project
This garden design is defined by the Fibonacci sequence applied to a series of plots. It began with a 1x1 meter square, followed by another square of the same size, then a 2x2 meter square, a 3x3 meter squre, and so on. As the number increases, the plot decreases slightly in elevation, creating a subtle terraced effect.
Visitors enter the garden at its southwest corner by stepping onto a curved marble pathway traversing a 21x21 meter pool. They follow the Fibonacci spiral created by the arcs formed between opposite corners of each square. The visitor eventually finds themselves at a stone fountain, sitting atop the original 1x1 meter square.
The calming quality of the surrounding nature combined with the logical arrangement of features allow a person to think clearly. By walking the spiral inward to the fountain, one is able to bring an idea or problem to its most fundamental form.
