How can a space represent an emotion?

This installation concept takes two nuanced emotional states and conveys them via a spatial sequence. The journey begins with an expression of Mild Awkward Discomfort, moves through a neutral transitional phase, and culminates in Awe, Elation & Wonder.

Part 1: Mild Awkward Discomfort

This subtle emotional state is conveyed through purposely unintuitive spatial relationships, slightly misaligned elements and movements that require more physical and mental effort than necessary, forcing one to move inelegantly from one room to another. The effect is compounded by materials and textures that lack definite character and seem slightly inappropriate.

Part 2: Transition

After the first segment, most of the awkwardness recedes. The emotional discordance wanes but the required physical effort increases, as the journey builds to a rewarding conclusion.

Part 3: Awe, Elation & Wonder

At the top of the stairs, the physical effort of climbing them is rewarded with a welcoming, elevated path that offers expansive views of the verdant surroundings and a private green space below.
